As I’m starting to work with Matthew on his reading, I realize how weird English is…Isn’t it a rule that when you add a silent E to the end of a word, the vowel before it take a long sound (like LIKE and TAKE)?  So why doesn’t that work in COME?  This certainly MAKES the CASE for word memorization.  And maybe that was what we were doing when we were reading, “See Dick run. See Spot run. Funny, funny Dick!  Funny, funny Spot!”
