I’m trying to put together some plans for Thanksgiving. It is not a holiday here (like, Duh…this is an American thing) but since we seem to work every holiday I told Felix we need to just get away from the clinic for the day. So, I’m holding out high hopes that we can takes some snacks and head for the beach for the day. Mayotte will come early to begin cooking a meal for us for when we get back and we’ve invited Jonathon to come over.
Mayotte and I discussed the menu and she went to the market to see if she could find us a live turkey. Last year we got one for US$12.50. (Our normal expenditure for meat for a whole week is around $10 so $12.50 is a significant purchase.) She went and most of them were selling for $42!!! She ended up with a small one for $18. Since I can buy half a case of chicken legs for that, I was very disappointed. After some discussion, the lady who does our housework and caring for Matthew, Juzelle, agreed to buy it from me and take it into the countryside to fatten it up. Maybe she can make some money from it if it grows. So, we will be having chicken, stuffing, pumpkin souffle, salad, and cooked veggies on Thursday. It is also Felix’s birthday so I’ll make a cake (probably banana again). I bought lots of things for him last August so some will make their appearance on the 22nd and the rest will wait until Christmas.
I really miss my family of origin during holidays like this. I will be thinking of you all and praying that you will realize how blessed and loved you are.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!
