Enjoying Life in These United States!

Just have a few minutes before we sit down for supper so there’s no time to include photos…We are now in the next phase of our vacation…the U.S. of A.!

We flew out of Kingston on Tuesday, Felix to Antigua and Matthew and me to Ft. Lauderdale.  Again, we had wonderful treatment by the staff at the Ft. L. Area Command and spent the night there (Matthew calls it The Salvation Army Hotel ).  A couple from the corps, Kevin and Lucy, invited us over for dinner along with Capt. Nichole and her 6 yr old nephew.  I was interested to see how the two boys would get along since Matthew has been playing with 2½ – 3 yr olds for the past week so that his inate leadership drives haven’t been challenged.  They got along wonderfully, playing super heros all night long while the adults chatted and watched TV.  Matthew got to use a scooter for the first time and did great.  Thanks, Lucy, Kevin and Nichole!

The flights to Atlanta and Greensboro went well.  We were able to meet up with Jamie without any problem at all.   My sprained ankle is almost pain-free so I was able to get us to the main terminal and back to our gate with plenty of time to spare.  It was great to see Jamie again and get snatches of life updates between giving attention to Matthew.  She was part of the South’s service team in ’02 when Matthew was only 4 mths old…quite a change since then!

Now we are unwinding at Grandmommy and Granddaddy’s.  So far we’ve been in the pool, chatted, gone to the beautiful new library and gone to the dentist.  Matthew did much better at the dentist than last year, with his mind focused on the gift toy box for his reward.  We both checked out well and I found out that Matthew grinds his teeth…just like me and others in my family.  Go figure!

Pictures later…

  1. It sounds like you have covered a great deal of miles – glad it was uneventful and smooth.  Have a terrific family visit.  I love going to the dentist, and found that when my life has more stress than usual, I grind my teeth too.  How is it children pick up on a parentla habit such as that.
Enjoy your stay with good friends, good health and good weather, restoring your mind, body and soul.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
