Who’s Carrying Your Load?
Recently, we distributed some food parcels to our patients in the clinic and in our TB sanitarium. The TB sanitarium is a short walk down a side road from the main clinic compound. Matthew wanted to help carry one of the bags, which was kind of heavy. I suggested that he try to carry it on his head, as they do here. He gave it a valiant effort but wasn’t very good at keeping it balanced. I was walking behind him so, unbeknownst to him, I was steadying the bag and lightening it a bit.
As I was doing this, God spoke to my heart. It struck me that this is the way it is in our lives. We think that we are “bearing our own burdens” when, in reality, God is there, “our ever-present help in trouble” Ps 46:1. Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. … For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” Matthew 11: 28, 30
Remember, friends, you are not alone today. Your Friend walks with you, steadying the load and making it possible for you to continue. Blessings!
